Chapter Five. Basic Editing > Working With Markers

Working With Markers

As I mentioned in Chapter 4, “Preparing to Edit,” markers are one of the most valuable and versatile tools available to you as an editor. Final Cut Pro's markers are very robust, and once you begin working with them, you will continually find new uses for them.

Marking a Moment in Time

You'll recall that at its simplest, a marker is just a placeholder or bookmark you can attach to a given frame of your clip or sequence. When a clip has a marker attached to it, that marker sticks around even when the clip is edited into a sequence. Although there is no functional difference, markers attached to a clip are called clip markers and markers attached to a sequence are called sequence markers. You can place as many markers as you like in any clip or sequence.
