Working With Clips

Once you've captured and catalogued all your clips, you're ready to begin editing—and at this stage, that means assembling sequences. Depending on the type of show you're building, you may go about this in different ways. But the first thing you need to know is how to select and extract the precise parts of those clips you want to include in your sequence.

Marking Clips

Every clip should have some “slop”—unnecessary frames surrounding the section you'll eventually select to use in the show. Before you move a clip from the Browser into a sequence, you should open it in the Viewer and mark the precise section you want to use (Figure 5.1). Identify this segment by setting In and Out points at the start and end of the section.
