Split Edits

I've already talked quite a bit about why and when you'll find yourself using split edits. By separating track edits from picture edits, you can smooth over the inevitable interruption any edit creates. Split edits are essential for almost every dialogue scene and many action scenes as well.

Most editors split their edits after the clips are already in the sequence by rolling the video edit separately from the audio edit, or vice versa (Figure 6.58). This works fine, but frequently you need to adjust the new edit point a bit to finish the job.
