Chapter 13. Super-imposing Clips > Difference Matte Key

Difference Matte Key

The difference matte key creates the transparent areas of a clip by comparing it with another still image and keying out the areas where the two clips match. The difference matte key is designed to remove a static background from behind a moving subject. By using a frame of a static background as the matte, you can key out the existing background and replace it with another. This key works only if the subject keeps moving and the camera remains static, however. This key type also provides the drop-shadow option.
