Chapter 2. Starting a Project > Specifying Video Settings

Specifying Video Settings

Video settings determine the video com pression scheme (or codec), amount of compression, color depth, and frame size of the program that you play back. In most cases, choose the settings that match your source video footage.

This section explains video settings in two parts. The first task covers only the essential video settings, which must be specified for any editing project. The second task covers settings that pertain to manipulating compression and color depth. For most programs, adjusting the latter settings isn't necessary. These settings become more useful when you export your program.
