Breaking and Creating Links

You can break or create links in the timeline. When you do so, however, you affect only the instances of the clips in the timeline: the links of the master clips and their associated files on the drive remain unaffected.

To break a link:

1.
In the timeline, select the video portion of a linked clip.

Both video and audio tracks of the linked clip appear selected.

2.
Choose Clip > Unlink Audio and Video (Figure 7.62).

The video and audio portions unlink, becoming two independent clips. An unnumbered marker appears in the middle of each of the resulting video and audio clips. You can keep each clip synchronized with the other by aligning these markers (Figure 7.63).
