Chapter 3. Importing and Managing Clips

Chapter 3. Importing and Managing Clips

Once you've selected video and audio settings for your project, it's time to begin adding the material you want to use in it— a process called importing.

You can import a wide variety of source media files as clips: movie files in various formats; audio files; still images, including bitmapped and EPS files; numbered image sequences; even other Premiere project files. As you learned in the previous chapters, a clip merely refers to the source media file. Therefore, altering the clip in the project doesn't change the source, and you can import the same file more than once.

All the clips you intend to use in the program are listed in the Project window. The longer and more complex the project, however, the lengthier and more unwieldy the list becomes. Fortunately, the new and improved Project window includes features that help you keep your clips organized and easy to find.

In this chapter, you learn to import clips into your project and how to use the Project window to view, sort, and organize them.
