Splitting Clips

Sometimes, you need to cut a clip in the timeline into two or more pieces. You may want to apply an effect to one part of a shot but not to another, for example. When you split a clip, each piece becomes an independent program clip, or clip instance. When you split a linked clip, both the video and audio tracks are split.

To split a clip with the razor:

1.
In the toolbox of the Timeline window, select the razor tool (Figure 6.74).

Click a clip in the timeline at the point where you want to split it (Figure 6.75).

The clip is split into two individual clips at that point (Figure 6.76).
