Chapter 6. Editing in the Timeline > Enabling and Disabling Clips

Enabling and Disabling Clips

Disabling a clip in the timeline prevents it from appearing during playback and when you preview or export the program. Disabling a clip is useful if you want to keep the clip in the program but want to exclude it temporarily. You might want to disable a single audio clip to hear what the program sounds like without it, for example. You can still move and make other changes in a disabled clip.

To disable or enable a clip:

1.
Select one or more clips in the timeline.

2.
Choose Clip > Enable Clip on Timeline (Figure 6.50).

Figure 6.50. Select one or more clips in the timeline, and choose Clip > Enable Clip on Timeline.

A check indicates that the clip is enabled. No check indicates that the clip is disabled. Disabled clips appear in the timeline with a hatch pattern of backslashes over them (Figure 6.51). Notice that backslashes on a disabled clip slope down to the right.

Figure 6.51. Unchecking the option disables the selected clips, which appear in the timeline with a pattern of backslashes (sloping down to the right).
