Opacity

You can set the opacity level of any object or its shadow. As you would expect, objects lower in the stacking order show through semitransparent objects. When you superimpose a title over another clip (see Chapter 13), the clip in the background also shows through.

To set opacity:

1.
Do either of the following:

  • Select an object.

    or

  • Select a range of text.

2.
Do either of the following:

  • To set the opacity of the object, click the object color swatch.

    or

  • To set the opacity of the shadow, click the shadow color swatch.

3.
Press and hold the overall opacity button (the triangle between the start and end opacity values) to reveal an opacity slider. Drag to select an overall opacity (Figures 12.116 and 12.117).

Figure 12.116. Press and hold the small center triangle to reveal a slider to control the overall opacity.

Figure 12.117. Drag the center slider to change the overall opacity of the selected objects.

Both the start and end opacity values (the numbers on either side of the overall opacity button) display the same value. Releasing the mouse button sets the opacity slider value (Figure 12.118).

Figure 12.118. The object or shadow color of the selected objects use the opacity value you set. Here, text with no shadow has an object color opacity of 60%.
