Orienting Text

Ordinarily, text flows horizontally within its bounding box (from left to right). You can orient the text vertically, so that it flows from the top of the bounding box to the bottom. Without vertical orientation, you would have to create vertical lines of text letter by letter. This feature is particularly useful for Chinese or Japanese characters, which are frequently presented vertically, from right to left.

To change text orientation:

1.
Select a text object.

2.
Choose either of the following (Figure 12.65):

Figure 12.65. From the Title menu, choose an orientation option for the selected text.

Title > Orientation > Horizontal— to orient the text horizontally from left to right.

Title > Orientation > Vertical—to orient the text vertically from top to bottom, right to left.

The selected text aligns according to your choice (Figure 12.66).
