Chapter 15. Creating Output > Exporting GIF Sequences and Animated GIFs

Exporting GIF Sequences and Animated GIFs

You can export GIF sequences and animated GIFs from Premiere as you would any other image format, except that additional options are available.

To specify settings for animated GIFs and GIF sequences:

1.
In the General panel of the Export Movie Settings dialog box, from the File Type pull-down menu, choose Animated GIF or GIF Sequence.

The Advanced Settings button becomes available for use.

2.
Click Advanced Settings (Figure 15.30).

The Advanced GIF Options dialog box appears (Figure 15.31).

3.
To simulate colors that are not available in the Web-safe colors palette by dithering (or mixing) pixels of available colors, check the Dithering checkbox.

Although dithered colors look grainy, they can make the limited color range appear to be greater and improve the appearance of color gradients. When Dithering is unchecked, unavailable colors are replaced with the next-closest colors, often resulting in banding, or abrupt color transitions.

4.
From the Transparency pull-down menu, choose one of the following options (Figure 15.32):

None—exports the animated GIF or GIF sequence as opaque.

Hard—makes one color in the image transparent.

Soft—makes one color in the image transparent with soft edges.

Click Color to open the color picker and choose the color that becomes transparent.

5.
To make an animated GIF play continuously, check the Looping checkbox.

Leave this option unchecked to make the animated GIF play once and then stop. This option is available only when you are exporting an animated GIF.
