Chapter 16. Capturing Video > Choosing a Scratch Disk

Choosing a Scratch Disk

In Chapter 9, you learned to designate the disks Premiere uses to save video and audio preview files. You can also designate a scratch disk for capture. Choose your fastest disk, because it's most capable of capturing all the frames successfully.

To set the scratch disk:

1.
In the Movie Capture window, click the Settings tab.

The Movie Capture window's Settings panel appears. In the panel, a summary of the capture settings and capture preferences appears. (If the tabbed panels are not visible, see "To hide and show tabbed panels," earlier in this chapter.)

2.
In the Preferences area of the Settings panel of the Movie Capture window, click the Edit button (Figure 16.11).

The Scratch Disks & Device Control panel of the Preferences dialog box appears (Figure 16.12).

3.
Choose an option from the Captured Movies pull-down menu (Figure 16.13):

Same as Application—to capture clips to the folder in which the Premiere application is located.

Select Folder—to open a dialog box in order to select a folder on any disk.

If you choose Select Folder, a Choose a Folder dialog box appears. In the dialog box, select a folder and click Choose. To achieve the best results, choose a fast disk or disk array.

4.
Click OK to close the Preferences dialog box.
