Capturing Without Device Control

If your system is not equipped with device control, use Premiere's basic capture window and the playback controls on the videotape deck.

To capture without device control:

1.
Choose File > Capture > Movie Capture (Figure 16.27).

If prompted, disable AppleTalk (Mac OS only). The Movie Capture window opens (Figure 16.28).

Under the video display, click the icons to toggle video and audio capture on and off:

—indicates video capture is enabled;

—indicates video capture is disabled.

—indicates audio capture is enabled;

—indicates audio capture is disabled.

Using the controls of your videotape deck, play the tape for several seconds before you begin capturing, allowing the deck to reach normal speed. If the system is configured properly, the video should appear in the preview area of the Movie Capture window.

Under the video image in the Movie Capture Window, click Record.

Premiere begins capturing.

To stop capturing, click the mouse again. You should also stop playback on the camera or deck.

If a project is open, the clip appears in the selected bin of the Project window. If no project is open, the captured clip appears in a clip window (Figure 16.29). If you want, use the playback controls on the clip to check the clip.
