Chapter 11. Standard Effects in Action > Using the PS + Spherize Effect

Using the PS + Spherize Effect

Borrowed from Photoshop, the PS + Spherize effect not only distorts images to resemble spheroids, but also lets you create cylindrical effects.

To use the PS+ Spherize effect:

1.
Select a layer.

2.
Choose Effect > Distort > PS+ Spherize (Figure 11.35).

The Spherize options dialog box appears.

3.
In the Spherize dialog box, select a mode (Figure 11.36):

Normal distorts the layer along a sphere shape.

Horizontal Only distorts the layer horizontally, to create a cylindrical shape.

Vertical Only distorts the layer vertically, to create a cylindrical shape.

4.
Click OK to close the Spherize dialog box.

You can skip the amount slider, because it's available among the standard effect controls. The layer's PS+ Spherize effect appears selected in the Effect Controls window (Figure 11.37).

5.
In the Effect Controls window, do any combination of the following:

For Amount, set the degree of distortion.

Positive values create a convex effect; negative values create a concave effect.

For Blend with Original, set the amount you want to blend the unaffected version of the layer with the distorted version.

To change the options previously set in step 3, click the Options button.

6.
If you want, animate the property settings as you learned in Chapter 7.

Monitor the changes in the Composition window (Figure 11.38).
