Chapter 7. Properties and Keyframes > Nudging Layer Properties

Nudging Layer Properties

You can also use keyboard shortcuts to slightly change, or nudge, the position, rotation, or scale of a layer. When you nudge a layer, After Effects counts pixels at the current magnification of the Composition window, not the layer's actual size. Therefore, nudging the position of a layer moves it one pixel when viewed at 100% magnification; two pixels when viewed at 50%; four pixels at 25%, and so on. When the quality of a layer is set to best, you can nudge layers on a subpixel basis. Therefore, a layer set to best quality can be nudged .5 pixel when viewed at 200%, .25 pixel when viewed at 400%, and so on. Table 7.3 lists the keyboard shortcuts for nudging properties.
