Setting Global versus Animated Properties

Now that you know how to view various layer properties, you can set their values. The following sections first describe how to set the value for a property, then go on to explain how to use keyframes to animate properties over time. Before you continue, review the basic differences between global and animated properties.

In the time graph, an I-beam icon appears at the current time across from properties with unchanging, or global values. The stopwatch icon next to the property's name appears deselected. As long as the stopwatch is deselected, the value remains unchanged and will not animate over time (Figure 7.5).
