Exporting Single Still Images

Frequently, you want to render only a single frame of a composition. For example, when an animation holds in place, substituting a still image can lighten the rendering load. Or you may simply need a still for a storyboard or client review. After Effects allows you to save a single frame using the default frame settings, or as a layered Photoshop file.

To save a frame of the composition as a still image file:

In the Time Layout window, set the current time of the composition to the frame you want to export (Figure 16.62).

Choose Composition > Save Frame As > File (Figure 16.63).

A Save As dialog box opens.

In the Save As dialog box, specify the destination and name of the saved frame (Figure 16.64).

Click Save to close the Save As dialog box.

The item appears selected in the Render Queue window (Figure 16.65).

To change the default settings for frames, select Render Settings and Output Module settings, or choose templates.

The previous sections explain how to select settings and save templates.

6.
In the Render Queue window, click Render.
