Targeting Masks

Beginning with version 4.0, After Effects allows you to create up to 127 masks for each layer. The Target pull-down menu at the bottom of the Layer window provides one way to select the mask you want to use.

To choose the target mask:

1.
View a layer in a Layer window.

2.
In the lower-right side of the Layer window, choose a mask from the Target pull-down menu (Figure 9.5):

Choose None to create a new mask without changing an existing mask.

Choose the name of an existing mask to target the mask for changes.

The mask you choose appears selected (Figure 9.6).

Figure 9.6. The targeted mask appears selected for you to change it. If you create a new mask shape, it replaces a targeted or selected mask.
