Chapter 9. Mask Essentials > Changing the Shape of a Mask

Changing the Shape of a Mask

You can change the shape of a mask at any time by moving, adding, or deleting its control points or direction handles. You can also keyframe the mask shape to animate it over time.

To move a mask or its control points:

1.
In the Layer window, select the points of the mask you want to move (Figure 9.53).

Figure 9.53. Select the points you want to move.

2.
To move the selected points, do any of the following things:

With the selection tool, drag a selected control point (Figure 9.54).

Figure 9.54. Drag the selected points to a new position, or nudge them with the arrow keys.

Don't drag the path segment between control points, or you will change the curve of the segment.

Press the arrow keys to nudge the selected control points at the current magnification of the Layer window.

If all points are selected, the entire mask moves. Otherwise, only selected points move, and line segments reshape to accommodate their new positions.
