Using Labels

Color-coded labels can also help you identify and organize items in the Project window. By default, certain file types use a particular label color. However, you can also give individual items the label of your choice. The following sections deal with labels for items in the Project window. (Like items in the Project window, layers in the Time Layout window also use the default label colors, or you can give individual layers the labels of your choice. For more about layers, see Chapter 5.)

To change the default label colors:

1.
Choose File > Preferences > Labels (Figure 3.20).

Figure 3.20. Choose File > Preferences > Labels.

The Labels panel of the Preferences dialog box appears (Figure 3.21).

Figure 3.21. The Label panel of the Preferences dialog box allows you to choose label options.

2.
In the Default Labeling section of the Preferences dialog box, choose a color from the pull-down menu for each type of footage (Figure 3.22).

Items in the Project window and layers in the Time Layout window use the color label you specified for each file type. However, if you specified a custom label color for an item or a layer, it will retain that custom color, despite changes to the default file label colors.
