Chapter 5. Layer Basics

Chapter 5. Layer Basics

In previous chapters, you laid the groundwork for the central activity of your After Effects work: manipulating the layers of a composition. Over the next several chapters, you will gradually increase your command over layers. This chapter focuses on the bare essentials, describing how to select, name, and label layers. You'll learn to control the quality of layers, and to choose whether they are included in previews and renders. And you'll find out how to make it easier to work with layers by concealing the ones you're not using, and locking the ones you don't want to disturb. In the process, you'll become a little more familiar with your primary workspace, the Time Layout window.
