Chapter 2. Importing Footage into a Project > Importing Unrecognized Files

Importing Unrecognized Files

Sometimes After Effects doesn't immediately recognize a file, even though it's saved in a format that After Effects supports. An unrecognized file doesn't appear in the Import Footage dialog box, not even when you select All Acceptable Files from the File Type pull-down menu (Figure 2.23). This can happen if the file has been transferred from another platform—an SGI workstation, for example—which saves the file in a compatible format, but doesn't use the same "creator codes" that your computer uses to recognize the file. Fortunately, you can manually specify the file format of files you want to import.
