Using Compound Effects

Due to their peculiar nature, compound effects have certain unique features. This section summarizes these attributes. Later in this chapter, you'll learn the steps to apply a few simple compound effects. More complex techniques are addressed in Chapter 14.

Specifying an Effect Source

In compound effects, you must specify the modifying layer using a pull-down menu (Figure 10.70). Though the modifying layer must be in the composition to appear in the list, you usually switch off its video in the Time Layout window. After all, it's included in the composition only as an effect source, not as a visible layer.
