Overview of the Work Flow

Any project, it can be argued, begins at the same point: the end. Setting your output goal determines the choices you make to achieve it. Whether your animation is destined for film, video, CD-ROM, or the Web, familiarize yourself with the specifications of your output goal, such as frame size, frame rate, and file format. Only when you've determined the output goal can you make intelligent choices about source material and setting up a project.

That established, the typical workflow might resemble the outline below. However, every aspect of After Effects is tightly integrated and interdependent. Between import and output, the steps of the project won't necessarily proceed in a simple linear fashion.
