Rendering for film

The process of scanning and recording back to film can vary somewhat among post production houses, so it's critical to work closely with your client and the service provider. You will want to plan your disk space, RAM requirements, and budget carefully.

When working in Adobe After Effects at film resolution, you'll find the ability to work at half and quarter resolution very useful to conserve screen space, update time, and operating memory. Set the comp frame rate and the Preferences > Display Frame Rate to 24 fps and the Display Style to SMPTE, Frames, or Feet & Frames. In Preferences > Import, set the Default Frame Rate for the Newly Imported Sequences option to 24 fps.
