NTSC color space

NTSC color space

Adobe After Effects works in an RGB color space (named for its red, green, and blue component colors), where colors are defined by the intensities of their red, green, and blue components. Broadcast video formats, however, use different color spaces (YUV or YIQ), where colors are described in terms of luminance and chromatic components.

When designing for broadcast formats such as NTSC, it is important to consider the limitations of the final color space. The 24-bit RGB color space used by Adobe After Effects has a different range of possible colors than the spaces used by broadcast formats. NTSC does not reproduce very saturated colors well and has particular problems with subtle color gradients.
