A Quick Tour of Adobe After Effects >  Setting layer keyframes

Setting layer keyframes

In After Effects, you can animate layers by setting two or more keyframes for the layer's properties at different points in time. Keyframes mark the point in time where you've set layer property values. In order to create a keyframe, you must first click the property stopwatch to activate it. If you don't activate the stopwatch, After Effects does not create new keyframes for the different values you set for a property. Instead, it sets the layer's entire duration to that value.
