A Quick Tour of Adobe After Effects >  Adding an adjustment layer

Adding an adjustment layer

Now you will add an adjustment layer to the composition. An adjustment layer is a solid layer to which you apply one or more effects. The effects you apply to this layer affect all layers below it in the Time Layout window, so you can easily apply the same effect to several layers at once. You can also turn an existing footage layer into an adjustment layer.

Once you create the new adjustment layer, you'll apply the Basic 3D effect to simultaneously flip all of the layers in the composition.
