FireWire

A type of connection that allows external devices such as recorders, DV camcorders, and scanners to exchange data with your computer at a very fast rate. FireWire connections also allow you to control a DV camcorder from your computer. FireWire is the common name for the IEEE-1394 standard, which was originally developed by Apple.

Formatting

The process of preparing a hard drive, floppy disk, CD-RW, DVD-RAM, or DVD+RW/DVD-RW disc to store data. UDF/packet-writing programs such as HP DLA and Adaptec's DirectCD also require you to format a disc before you can use it.
