Data buffer

Internal memory (similar to your computer's RAM) used by your CD or DVD recorder to store data from your hard drive until it's ready to be recorded. Generally, the larger the data buffer, the fewer errors your drive will encounter while recording discs.



Defragmenting

The process of optimizing your hard drive by reading the files it contains and rewriting them in contiguous form, one after another. Files written contiguously can be read faster and more efficiently—a good idea when burning files from your hard drive to a CD or DVD.
