Project: Recording a DVD Genealogy Archive Disc

I can't think of a better use for a DLA disc than a genealogy archive—your valuable data is stored safely, but you can update the disc with additional information that you turn up with continuing research. (Come to think of it, the same is true for your Quicken data files and TurboTax returns for the last five years…but we'll stick with the genealogy project, because I thought of it first.) With compression, you may be able to store 5 or 6 GB of data on one disc; that's enough space for reunion videos, a library of voices in WAV format, and a high-resolution Windows bitmap image of every member of your clan!

Because you won't be distributing this disc to others, you can safely use compression and a DVD+RW disc. We'll assume that your blank DVD+RW disc is unformatted.
