What Do I Need?

To transfer analog-to-digital, you'll need the following equipment (besides the SoundStream software):

  • A stereo system that can play the original media. Your stereo's amplifier, preamp, or tuner needs standard Audio Out jacks that will allow it to connect to your computer.

  • Your computer's sound card. Virtually all computer audio cards now have Audio In jacks, and any card should be able to record CD-quality music.

  • The proper cables. Ah, here's the rub. Unfortunately, many computer sound cards on the market today have proprietary connectors—often called dongles (and usually with irritation)—that are required to connect standard audio cables.
