A Word of Caution

Before you read any further, take note: Transferring analog to digital should be done only for those recordings you can't already get on audio CD! In other words, dear reader, it's just plain ridiculous to spend your valuable time and effort copying your old Beatles albums to an audio CD. Why? Those albums are almost certainly available already on audio CD, and no matter how good a job you do in transferring the music, it will always sound better when professionally mastered from the original recordings. (Plus, you're likely to get liner notes.)

With this in mind, consider an analog-to-digital transfer a last resort for the truly irreplaceable audio in your collection: tapes you've made of your family, for example, or your audio diary. Or that bootleg recording of Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Zappa jamming together live. (Come to think of it, send me a copy of that one, too.)
