Chapter 30. Helping the Team Resolve Con... > CASE STUDY: CONFLICTING TEAM MEMBERS

CASE STUDY: CONFLICTING TEAM MEMBERS

When team members understand the nature of conflict and constructive methods to resolve it, they can usually work out disagreements themselves. When they cannot, or when the problem requires your intervention for other reasons, you may have to engineer a solution. How would you solve this conflict?

Tara is supervisor of a small group of quality-control testers in a chemical-products laboratory. At different times, two testers have come to her with different suggestions for reporting test results to plant operations. The first, Jeremy, wants to send the results to the foreman in charge of the unit where the samples were produced. Angela, on the other hand, wants to send the reports directly to the lead operator on the unit so corrective changes can be made as soon as possible.
