Successful supervisors understand that individual employees are responsible for their own motivation. What the supervisor or employer is responsible for is working to create an atmosphere where employees feel appreciated and recognized for their contributions. Some supervisors have adopted the mind-set of “they get paid to work; why should I thank them!” But supervisors with this belief probably will not realize the full potential of their employees.
