Chapter 21. Win-Win Negotiating

The only negotiating style that works effectively in a team is win-win. That means that what makes you happy should also work for those on the other side. You need to focus more on common interests than on personal gains. You’re looking for solutions to joint problems and lasting agreements that all of you will take seriously. You need to agree instead of argue, cooperate instead of compete, and solve each other’s problems instead of selfishly looking out for number one. If you succeed in negotiating a win-win solution out of a conflict situation, you’ll increase commitment, reduce bad feelings, and prevent long-term grudges.
