Team Feedback

The easiest way to give advice is in private. Often, this is the best way for people to hear things and agree to change. But ultimately, teams need to be up-front with their feedback in a group setting. To be effective, team feedback must be constructive, specific, and ongoing.

Be constructive Be destructive
Help each other learn and grow Bash or put each other down
Suggest actions to take Gang up on an individual or idea
Be fair Be negative
Be objective and impartial Whine and complain
Be honest Be judgmental
Be assertive and get your point across Disguise criticism in off-the-wall comments
Convey practical observations Convey blanket generalities
Be specific Filter your comments
Give concrete, meaningful details Have a hidden agenda
Provide supporting examples Be reluctant or hold back
Be consistent Spring surprises
Communicate openly Indulge in knee-jerk reactions
Give interim feedback Overreact
