One-On-One Feedback

Let’s look in more detail at the two kinds of one-on-one feedback recommended for teamwork: positive reinforcement and advice. Researchers estimate that most children receive 35 times more negative feedback than positive while growing up. To counteract this conditioning, teams should use 80% reinforcement and only 20% advice. This works because if you give positive advice too often, people just hear negative criticism. You positively reinforce by acknowledging, encouraging, and praising at every opportunity, and agreeing and siding with your teammates when you agree.
