How to Develop Contracts

To develop group contracts, invest the time to talk with your teammates about their needs and wants. Good teams get explicit about what they expect from team members and the organization. You’ll make faster progress if everyone listens to and respects others’ positions. Team members who take action without others’ buy-in aren’t very popular. That’s why it’s important when your team is forming to focus on mission, ground rules, charter, plans, and roles. Your team should first contract among its own members and then get the bosses to contract too.
