Agenda

  1. Introductions: Team members introduce themselves, share background, location, and experience working on a virtual team.

  2. Develop and align mission statement and goals. Begin with a draft mission statement and goals developed by the leader or a sub-group in advance.

  3. Develop and align each team member’s role and responsibilities in support of the team’s goals and mission.

  4. Develop and align on a clear set of working agreements or code of conduct (how team will work together). Consider:

    • Resources: Does the team have what it needs to communicate with one another? Which communication channel will be the team’s primary tool (e.g., groupware, email, telephone, or fax)?

    • How often does the team check in? Do some members need to check in more than others? What is the process if something is urgent?

    • How will the team make decisions and resolve conflicts?

    • How does the team add or delete members?

    • Groupware users: Define conventions for document postings based on the kind of groupware to be used

  5. Develop next steps and action items. Schedule next meeting date if necessary.

The activities which follow have been designed to help you work through parts of the sample agenda.
