Establishing a set of team operating principles allows team members to create rules and expectations that all team members agree to work by. Doing this when a team is first launched clarifies working and relationship boundaries for team members during an ambiguous time. Once a team passes through the initial forming stage, these guiding principles will continue to ensure that all members stay on track. They will be available for reference should questions or disputes arise later, and they can also be shared with new members to help them learn existing team agreements.
