What do you need to consider and discuss as your virtual team begins its journey? If you have decided that you are ready to form a virtual team or you are already a member of a virtual team, this checklist might help. Place a check ( ) in the box next to each category that you have considered sufficiently. Some items might require more in-depth discussion by team members. (Toward the end of this section are several exercises that will help your team get started.)


Our team has:

Defined membership requirements(who are the right people are for this team)

Defined leadership requirements (single or shared)

Outlined channels and maintenance support (organizational and technological)

Identified resources (what do you have, what will you need, how will you get it)

Anticipated potential barriers (how will you handle them)

Outlined team operating principles (ground rules for working together)

Agreed upon a clear understanding of the team’s mission, goals, roles, and expectations

Created a project plan to support the team’s purpose

Identified “ministones” and “milestones” (to acknowledge progress)

Identified recipe for success (the four key ingredients)
