Respectful Listening

A team’s ability to understand, express, and leverage its own diversity will be a valuable asset. Virtual teams do best when they focus their attention on listening to each other much more so than advocating what they believe is right. People who strongly defend their point of view may not focus on listening to others. Truly understanding the different perspectives represented in a virtual team will result in more thorough decision-making and higher quality work. Often the least obvious perspective will bring the most valuable idea, solution, or issue to a team. Virtual teams will need to assure that each perspective is encouraged and valued by the team.
