Team Direction

Before you can form a team, you’ll need to brief potential members on the organization’s critical business need, its overall strategy and where their goals fit in. Without clear objectives, it is nearly impossible to recruit skilled and committed members.

Too wide a scope is another common mistake that slows teams down. Yet most of us tend to dump all sorts of elaborate demands on an as-yet-untested group and then get angry when it flounders. We should know better, and yet it happens over and over. Err on the side of narrow requirements. Give a new team a chance for small wins before you expect it to conquer the world.
