Part I: Defining Team Direction > The Team Environment

Chapter 6. The Team Environment

If everyone in your organization was skilled and experienced at sponsoring, leading, facilitating and participating in high-performance teams, teams could be deployed much faster. The military uses this rapid-deployment-force model to prepare for all contingencies. To build a universal team environment:

  • Train all management levels, functional groups and employee disciplines in high-performance teamwork

  • Launch narrowly focused demonstration projects that let newcomers learn and practice

  • Staff a team support unit to plan and conduct training, troubleshoot problems and make available proven team processes

  • Maintain an up-to-date database of training, assignments and experience

  • Rotate everyone into different team roles to build depth

  • Regulate team commitments so that a pool of qualified team members is always available for rapid deployment and no one is overcommitted
