Chapter 27. The Consumer Tech Root Cause

When Consumer Tech’s management team analyzed their disagreement on how to proceed with the new product, they found many contributing factors. Ultimately it was traced to the Board of Directors and some overly-optimistic preliminary reports about the successful test results of the new toothbrush. The Board was wildly excited about the potential effect on the stock price if the product would hit the market ahead of the competition.

This explained the source of the underlying pressure to introduce the new toothbrush immediately. But the Board didn’t have the whole story. Several quality and inventory issues remained unresolved. So the root cause was defined as:
