When organizations move toward employee involvement, either formally or informally, group dynamics become a major factor in improvement. In facilitation exercises, the facilitator is responsible for providing a structure so that the team can be successful. Note that in traditional hierarchical organizations, individual rather than group work is the rule. Even when groups come together in traditional organizations, the environment tends to be one-way communication in a presentation format. Thus, most leaders do not fully understand group dynamics and therefore lack the skills needed to transform groups of individuals into effective teams. This brings us to:
