Part II: Team Involvement, Decision Maki... > What if the Group Still gets Stuck?

Chapter 17. What if the Group Still gets Stuck?

The aim of this entire book is to provide guidance on how a facilitator can effectively move a group toward its goal. At times even the effective use of structure, tools and skills will not keep a team from getting bogged down. Realize this is predictable and natural. When this occurs, the facilitator can often assist. First, the facilitator needs to try to determine the cause of this dilemma. Do they lack the tools and knowledge to go forward? Have they become too dependent on you or the team leader for movement or are they simply in conflict and having trouble collaborating?

Next acknowledge and get agreement from participants that the team is stuck; then, ensure that all participants agree to the specific objective and task to which the group committed. If you are off track, get agreement to move back to the agenda.
