Chapter 18. Essential Tools

A team that is involved in improving quality needs tools to use in identifying causes of and potential solutions to problems and issues. Recall that the facilitator is responsible for the meeting structure, and therefore, the timely and effective use of these tools by the team. Additionally, it is often the facilitator’s responsibility to provide initial or refresher training on these tools. Four of the most frequently used team tools are flowcharts, brainstorming, cause-and-effect (fishbone) diagrams, and Pareto diagrams.
